Two disclosures up front: Devin is a serious product, and some teams should pick it. The useful comparison is not agent vs agent. It is operating model vs operating model: hire a hosted agent by the compute unit, or install a factory you own.

When Devin is the right call
- Code running in a vendor’s cloud is acceptable to your security team.
- One good agent is enough; you are not optimizing across models.
- Your workload is small or bursty enough that ACU metering stays cheap.
When you want a factory instead
- Security review matters: code, credentials, and execution must stay in your accounts.
- You want agent choice per task, and the option to reroute as models leapfrog each other.
- You want evidence attached to every change: checks passed, QA recorded, one PR per changed repo.
- You are budgeting a program, not a subscription: a factory your team owns after handover, with usage-based commercials (how the engagement works).
How to evaluate either
